Inspired by ethnic headdresses and eye-covering traditions, Nat Rogers' series uses shadow to nullify her subjects identity. In the Himalayas, Nepalese people use dark horse hair to cover their eyes from the glare of the snow. Nat was interested in the concept of a veil of shadow and the role the eyes play in communication. In traditional photographic portraiture the eyes are often the most important focus. In this series masks have been created with shadow and the subjects identity is diminished.
Disparate in both location and content, Tom Borgas' anthology of spaces is an expression of his varied encounters with the sublime. Although minimalist in their aesthetic, this collection of photographs is a deeply meditative exploration of what it means to truly experience our surroundings.
